I am interested to know how many here have ancestors that fought in the revolutionary war. I have several ancestors that were Officers and enlisted personnel that fought in that war. Love to hear from others. What state etc.
Two, both in the King's Orange Rangers. One fought and died in New York State. The other in New York State and the Maritime provinces of Canada.
Any other Virginians? Seems those with Northeastern ancestry tend to dominate this topic. From what I've read Virginia contributed about one fifth of the estimated 250,000 American combatants. Unlike many other states like PA and NC we had very few tories.

Yes..I do have relatives who fought in the Revolutionary War. My Grandmother belonged to the "Daughters of the American Revolution"..Massachusetts. Lots of big family history on my Dad's side of the family. Geneology says that my family came to Plymouth Mass in the 1600's and am assuming they were with one of the boatloads of Pilgrims running from religious persecution. My Great Grandfather invented the knitting loom...could have been lucritive had his ex wife not stolen the patent and run with it. LOL....anyhow..yes my family did fight in the Revolutionary war. My Aunt had a diary that belonged to a drummer boy who was a relative..not so sure about any officers or high ranking people. All my roots can be traced to England and Massachusetts..it is interesting stuff for sure.
My husband has several on his mother's side. More than I can count offhand.
I'm an immigrant to the U.S. though so I have none, just a tonne of boring British ancestors
Hi Glamatomic...had to respond to your comment..I have British ancestors as well. Part of the reason for the Revolutionary war or the biggest reason I should say is that the Americans wanted to get away from the Brits..sorry..we wanted to be off on our own, so to speak. I am sure you knew this. British ancestors are anything but boring..I traced my Geneology not too long ago and OH MY GOODNESS..the things I found out about my Great, Great Grandfather over in England..he had at least 4 wives and Lord only knows how many kids and branches of the family he created. I have everything from Scullery Maids to Lords and Ladies on that list. It always amazed me when I was tracing that particular side of my family just where it did lead. That side of my family is TOWNSEND or as they spelled it back then TOWNSHEND..quite a story!
