I was looking through the 1890 Union Veterans census and found a number of names that had not regiment designation, and at the bottom the notations "no schedule". Does anyone have any idea of what that means? Here is an example, the image can be enlarged.
Thank you, Nitram. I have just started going through some of these records. Sometimes I get a page with an X crossed through the names with no reason given. I'm assuming the census taker interviewed each veteran and it seems hard to believe that the veteran didn't remember his unit. It's a shame they didn't include Confederate veterans, even though a lot show up in these records, it would have given us a better handle on the numbers.
Here is an interesting read on the Veterans Schedule for 1890. It seem that a lot of missing information is because they could not locate the person for many reasons. Some deserted, some disappeared, some were criminbals, some just fell off the face of the earth... 1890 Veterans Schedule
