Anyone have any maps with the mention of family members on them? I found a photo copy of this in my granmother's personal type written geneaology, done by her aunt, in the early 70's. Thanks to the digital age all I had to do is look for it online - she had to do a little more work than that just to get the photo copy. I thought this was so cool when I was younger. But I never thought about it until later in my life.
Here is one map, 1773 NC, that has 5 family members on it - both the original and a copy of it. Iredell County Public Library
Dozens, though none from the 18th century. Land ownership maps are quite common, there's a lot on Ancestry.com but as you've discovered, there are also other sources. If anyone has Pittsburgh ancestry, I suggest: Historic Pittsburgh - Maps Collection (particularly the G.M. Hopkins collection). And for Philly ancestry: Greater Philadelphia GeoHistory Network
Not all of them are land ownership maps but many are.
One of my favorites, though, is a survey map done of Oregon in 1856. It shows houses (with the inhabitants names on it), paths, plowed fields, streams, etc. Nice to get a view of their lives and their "neighborhoods."
