Chicago, Cook County - death and divorce records? (find, search, grandmother)

I'm having trouble finding death and divorce records for a relative who I am pretty sure divorced in Chiacgo prior to 1946 and died in chicago prior to 2001. Actually, she might have died prior to 1951, but that is just a guess. I know for certain she died before 2001.

I have found her marriage records in Chicago (she married twice), but am struggling to find death and divorce records.

I am a newbie at this stuff - I've only been on Ancestry.com about a month or so - so I'd appreciate any kind of wisdom or insight anyone can share. Thanks!

Post the lady's name and date of birth and whatever information you have so that someone can help you look up the information or research it. Some information is online and some information is not. If you know her husband's name, mention that as well, or her parents names.

You might try posting on Ancestry's message boards for Cook county, IL, someone might be willing to do a lookup for you.

I've had pretty good luck using the Cook County Clerk's office. If you don't have exact dates, they will search a range of years you specify (for a fee of course!)

I also agree that posting the information here may yield some help.

If you are having difficulty locating divorce or death records, she may have divorced or died somewhere else, or have you considered that she may have remarried again? I couldn't find my g-grandmother even after requesting several searches from Cook County where she spent the majority of her years...except for her last years. I eventually found a marriage announcement which led to finding her in another state, married to another man and her final resting place. And that was the fifth marriage...that I know of...
