If you have never explored a few actual pension application files it is hard to understand why this is such a worthwhile endeavor, but it really is. You may find letters from parties who are testifying as to who the pensioner is and why they know this person to be the pensioner. Many a story are recanted that fleshes out your ancestor’s life. Truly a fascinating endeavor.
