Specifically Warsaw. I know for a fact that my great-great-grandparents were from Warsaw. I know their names and the names of their fathers. They were Catholic of Polish and German descent. I estimate their dates of birth between 1845-1860. I contacted a couple of genealogists and they said that they need additional info such as the name of the parish, address, social class. I asked all my relatives and none of them know anything other than what I know. They didn't come to the U.S.

I read that it might be difficult to find information in Warsaw since many records were destroyed during WWII. Has anyone had any luck finding records with only limited information, like the one I have?

Ken and daliowa, thanks for those links. I've traced my Polish my ancestors back to their arrival in the US, but continued research of ancestors in Poland is on my to do list. I bookmarked those sites and will check them out.

There are Polish heritage websites. Get onto those, and people there will be happy to help.

O.K. thank you. Has anyone had experience in contacting the archives in Warsaw directly?

Borders between Poland and Lithuania have been disputed...also Germany. Some of the records might be under those countries, or others.

You should know that Poland was partitioned into 3 sections for a while. Prussian, Austro-Hungary and Russian I think... checking of census records may indicate which area the relatives were in by seeing the country of origin. They may name which section they were in.

Are you in the Chicago area? They have a lot of resources for Polish genealogy here since it has a huge Polish community.
