If you don't have a subscription to Ancestry than check if it's available for free at your local library.
Ancestry has many manifest & border crossing databases.
Ancestry also has Canadian & U.S. census, old city directories & much more.
If you're looking for histories about either location than try contacting a historical society which is local to either locale.
Sometimes a local library may have histories of the area.
Old newspapers can be helpful, this site lists digitized newspapers by geographic location:
