Hello everyone, Merry Christmas and sorry for posting this thread ! I promise it's the last one I'll ever post on this subject !
So I finally recieved my 23andme results (my mother also did it). We both came out as 100% european in the speculative mode. As you may know (since I can't stop polluting this forum with it...), there's a story in my family that my great-great-great-grandfather on my mother side was a Hungarian Roma (from India). That would make me on paper (I know about random DNA inheritance don't worry) 1.5% south asian and my mother 3% south asian (the rest of my know ancestrors, thanks to my genealogical researches, are all swiss).
Before I recieved my 23andme results, I ran all the gedmatch admixture calculators with me and my mother's raw data. I know that european people can have some south asian admixture in gedmatch but I thougt that, like me and my mother's south asian precentages were pretty high (see results below) and that my mother had more south asian admixture than me, it would show up in my 23andme results.
(south asian/indian/south central asian/south indian percentages for me in gedmatch)

What can we tell, knowing all this ? Is my family story wrong ? Did I just not inherit south asian DNA ? Or did 23andme miss my south asian DNA ?
Thank you very much for your answers and I'm sorry for all the threads I posted
I would say you either didn't inherit any of the south asian dna from your ancestor or that ancestor wasn't actually what you think he was. Your gedmatch numbers are in the noise range and even people of British descent with no south asian or roma ancestry can show more South Asian than you do on Gedmatch. Same with your mother.

Well, okay thank you for your answer I know that My gedmatch results are in the noise range bit what about my mother's ? Looking at her results, I thougt it was more than just noise
Well lets take Eurogenes for example since it is the most reliable for Europeans. I am of colonial American descent with about 40% of that being British origin. On the Eurogenes K13 test i score 3.25% and i have no Roma or Indian ancestry.

Oh I see. I guess that, like you said, either my family story is wrong, either I inherited no DNA from that particular ancestor. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer Merry Christmas

For additional reference my father's South Asian result Eurogenes K13 is 2.3%. His ancestry is mostly (as far as I know now that is) Brittish, German, and Swiss. I'd say your South Asian percentages are a bit low, but at those low levels it's hard to pinpoint where it comes from and how it randomly resulted in you.
I would suggest that autosomal DNA might not reveal that ancestry, especially if the roots to India itself (vs just Hungary) are far enough back and as you know randomly you might not get much dna if at all if it's 5+ generations back.
Is this ancestor up a straight enough maternal or paternal line for you to get a y dna or mt dna test from a cousin?

No there's no way for me to find this ancestry with y-dna or mtdna... I got the results from 23andme and me and my mother don't have any south asian admixture. Either I didn't inherit the DNA, either my family story is false. Now 23andme gives me suprising admixture to try to explain so looks like I have another goal to reach now
Even if we use the one your mom has the highest results with, MDLP K=5, they are no higher than normal. I have no known Asian or Romani ancestry at all and I have an extensively researched tree and my south Asian results on MDLP K5 are higher than your moms at 3.47%.
I get South_Asian 6.27%, but my south Asian/South indian goes up and down depending on what tool i use... have you tried to find South Indian on the tools as this is a Romani marker not south Asian (as far as i know) and also not been funny and no offence to any one but you should check your paper trail, because i have seen people who claim Romani ancestry who have lower scores than what you have or that are similar... You have to bare in mind that the Asian ancestry will be far back enough as Romani are already mixed with European... and i thought that it was West Asian that is common In Europeans not South Asian... clearly the two are not the same...
like me for example I KNOW THAT I HAVE ASIAN ANCESTRY BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND THEM... and I'm trying to determine if it was through colonisation or if it is Romani and I'm not fully of European descant and still people are telling me its because i am European but I'm not lol I'm mixed
