I remember reading about a guy who everyone in his family jokingly said he was adopted because he didn't look like the others in his family. Sometime later they somehow came across a picture of a distant great-grandfather, and he was a dead-ringer for the man! So, you can't go by looks alone.

My youngest son was our "mystery man," looking MARKEDLY different from his other three siblings.

It wasn't till he was a young man that we realized he was a dead ringer for his great grandfather, who had died at age 33 so we only had a few photos of him, as a young man, and none of him as a child or baby.

It was really interesting.

On the other hand, many families have such strong and obvious resemblances that even first and second cousins can just about pass for siblings. That's how my wife's family is. I have known some cases where people do have some similar traits as their siblings and both parents but also have some other unique features that were passed down from an older relative. Not sure if we have some mothers with guilty consciences replying now or what. While nobody is going to be an exact copy of anyone else, if you can't find any similarities to your father or anyone in his family, there is probably a reason. I'm not just talking about hair or eye color either. Similarities could include body frame, head shape, shape and design of hands and feet, facial features like nose, lips, and eye shape, hair growth patterns and hair line, as well as beard growth patterns, and even teeth. If you can't find any of those with your father and yet you can with your mother, again, there is probably a reason.
