I just realized that I'm jonesing for a genealogy TV show! I thought I remembered this time last summer seeing WDYTYA.

Just checked the dates for the past seasons, and this is what I found.

NBC:
Season 1: 3/5/10-4/30/10
Season 2: 2/4/11-4/8/11
Season 3: 2/3/12-5/18/12

TLC:
Season 4: 7/23/13-9/10/13
Season 5: 7/23/14-8/27/14
Season 6: 3/8/15-4/26/15
Season 7: 7/26/15-8//30/15
Season 8: 4/3/16-5/1/16

What they heck is TLC doing to us?
The first year they had it: Summer.
The second year: Summer.
The 3rd year: Split season, some in early Spring, the rest in the Summer.
This year: Some in the early Spring, and NOTHING in the summer!

Come on, summer TV already sucks, but at least we had this to look forward to.

I just figured out that TV producers probably just want to torture genealogy fans.

Here were the dates for Genealogy Roadshow:
Season 1: 9/23/13-10/14/13
Season 2: 1/13/15-2/17/15
Season 3: 5/17/16-6/28/16

And here were the dates for Finding Your Roots:
Season 1: 3/25/12-5/20/12
Season 2: 9/23/14-11/15/14
Season 3: 1/5/16-3/8/16

So no genealogy TV show can follow a normal schedule????

IIRC it's because Ben Affleck begged producers to cut out the revelation that his family owned slaves and producers agreed. It ended up being discovered by the media and people were outraged that such cherry picking was allowed. I didn't watch the show but it does seem like it totally violates the premise of the show not to show that.

So... blame Ben Affleck!

That explains Finding Your Roots, but not Who Do You Think You Are.

i thought they was pretty boring, since they went out of there way to cherry pick an individual in a tree

Okay, that's nice. But my point is not whether you like genealogy shows or not. It's why the hell can't any of them stick to a normal schedule?

I'm guessing it's a scheduling problem. Their seasons tend to be very short as TV show seasons normally go, and I bet that makes scheduling the TV airing difficult. Additionally, I'm pretty sure that the amount of shows they have each season is dependent on not only how many willing celebrities they have to work with, but also how many of them wind up having an interesting enough story for them to air. That will probably make scheduling difficult too, because there's so many (almost last minute) variables.

I read on another site that it will start up again in the UK in mid August, so maybe it will be coming on soon.

The UK show is different from the US show - the UK one often has a lot of UK celebrities that aren't very well known in the US. I think they are completely different producers so I don't think they really have anything to do with one another besides the brand. Certainly, the airing/scheduling have nothing to do with one another.
