I use this tool to obtain co-ordinates of a particular place in Google Maps: Google Maps - Find GPS coordinates, longitude, latitude, altitude

I save the information in my notes in this format (example is London, England): 51.5073509, -0.1277583
Then if I want to see the location on a map I plug 51.5073509, -0.1277583 into the location field in Google Maps.

This is particularly useful if your ancestors lived in a small town where the town name was not unique to the country or area in which they lived. You don't have to waste time eliminating the other villages every time you search for the town on Google Maps.

Another website which I consider a tool is: https://www.behindthename.com/

Plug in a first name and you will see all variations of that name in different languages. I found that particularly useful when an area of Austria some of my German speaking ancestors lived in the 1800s was part of Hungary. All the birth, marriage, and death records used the Hungarian equivalent of the German first names. The first names were quite different in the two languages and I would never have guessed they were the same person without the Behind the Name website.
