I have tested at 23andme and Ancestry.com,23andme with less Snps/markers (500,000 or a bit more) tested, ancestry with 700,000 markers tested.

In the 23andme test my African ancestry is 32 percent and is indentified as West African at 27 percent and the remaining South African.

In the ancestry test its again 32 percent African ancestry, but this time it's only South African - southeastern bantu 20 percent and south central hunter gatherers 12 percent

In the myheritage results (with ancestry data) it's once again 32 percent African .
But it's East African- Kenyan at 13.2% Central African at 10.6% and West African -
Nigerian 7.4% Sierra Leonean 1.0%

It seems there is consistency in that they are all 32 percent African, but I'm confused as to if I'm west African or South African?

My known African ancestry is this - I have descent from the Damara tribe from Namibia in southwest Africa, and the Xhosa tribe in South Africa. I also have likely Slave ancestry from various African slaves that could have come from anywhere in Africa.I was told I had some Zanzibar ancestry (east Africa).I also dreamt that I came from the Igbo tribe which I found out is a tribe in Nigeria.

Both myheritage and ancestry have me as 8 and 9 percent Scandinavian,I feel most confident in my myheritage results but I've heard people say they aren't the best.Ancestry just says no west African ancestry at all and I don't feel that can be right.

Do you have your "raw data" already?
I recommend to go to Gedmatch.com and upload your raw data there and go to the several tools they have there
I recommend the Ethiohelix application there
Here is my result, French is European by the way:
ETHIOHELIX:
Population
Nilo-Saharan 0.07
North-Africa 19.52
Mbuti-Pygmy 1.89
Eastern-Bantu 2.16
Khoi-San 1.24
West-Africa 1.05
Hadza 2.68
Biaka-Pygmy 0.88
French 62.24
Omotic 8.26

Have you played around with your raw data on gedmatch? I spent a number of hours on that site after I received my results. It's pretty interesting to see the different breakdowns.

I just ran Africa9.

I don't have much experience working with African DNA, but this is a prime example of how the ethnicity report is only really reliable on a continental level. Sub-continental groups have been intermixing for so long that in many cases, it's difficult or impossible to tell them apart with any real accuracy.

Yes I thought that,I remember reading that some of the South African tribes I come from migrated from west Africa or central Africa or somewhere, hence the confusion.I guess it depends how far back they go with the test.I will try out these gedmatch tools etc.

Below are 2 My Heritage blog posts. They've been sending people out to test various parts of the world in their Tribal Quest, I'm pretty sure Africa was one of them

In my opinion, most of your ancestry come from your Namibian roots and only a small percentage from West Africa. About african ancestry, I would trust Ancestry DNA rather than 23andme, it's more complete.
