I wonder if people ever try to contact these famous people they are "related" to? That would be one ill side effect of the app.
Celebrities get contacted by fans all the time, regardless of this app. I doubt the app has much influence. The app doesn't allow you to contact the celebrities, if that's what you're thinking. You'd have to try to contact them the same way any fan does - fan mail address, Twitter, etc.
Haven't tried this yet. My cousin George found out he's related to John Phillip Sousa. Now I'm not sure what connection to my side of the family there might be. Kevin James and his brother Gary Valentine, are cousins of mine.Their real last name is Knipfingand we share the same great great grandmother, Regina Eva Hemmelman Hilpert Knipfing. She married first my great grandfather's father Geog in Himmelstadt ,Bavaria. When he died of an illness, she then married Micheal Knipfing of the same town. That's how I'm kevin's cousin.
I've used it and think it is just entertainment unless you can verify the connections.

All of them are supposedly connected to me through a 5th great grandmother with the surname of Bass. I have never been able to confirm the 5th great grandmother's parentage. Since I believe this app is just based on your ancestry tree I don't understand how it can just automatically assign parents/grandparents/etc., to an ancestor if there is not DNA match.
Note, my grandfather's DNA recently came back and he is a closer link to my Bass line since they are maternal relatives of his, but I'm not sure about this app and if it is based on both the tree and DNA or just the tree and they guessed at parentage of my Bass 5th great grandmother based on her approximate year of birth and place of birth. I'm doing some research on who they say is my 5th great grandmother's father. FWIW I did have him on a list of potential parents for her based on location and his age, but I've never been able to confirm the connection.
