When travel records (that name numerous persons of various ages and genders) show the "event type" for all of them as "immigration" does that conclusively mean the persons were immigrating to the USA?

Not necessarily. What kind of travel record is it? What year? Immigration can just mean the process of entering a foreign country, doesn't necessarily matter for what purpose or how long. Today, every time we enter a different country, even just to visit, we go through "customs and immigration". The immigration part is when the officers ask you "Are you here for business or pleasure? How long are you staying?" etc and stamp your passport.

But it's hard to say without seeing it or knowing more about the document.

It says they were born in Pennsylvania & NY.

They sailed on a ship called Queen of Bermuda. Probably went on vacation.

Just because the event type is listed as immigration it does not literally mean that they were immigrants. In this index the word immigration is simply meaning they were entering the port of NY.

The Queen of Bermuda appears to have been a cruise ship, making regular week long cruises between NYC and Bermuda and back to NYC. See: http://cruiselinehistory.com/the-que...cruise-liners/

If you are looking at the return trip for the couple I think you are, they left NYC on the same ship the week before and then returned on the same ship back to NYC (the record you have). The record going is on Ancestry.

So, it's not an "immigration" event; it's just a round trip cruise.

Unfortunately that is the case.

I was curious why "event type" said immigration. When none of them appeared to be immigrating.

Listing this as an immigration is sadly misleading. But, when you are indexing millions of records it must be impossible to ascertain which manifests show people actually immigrating and those that are simply traveling.
