DNA would not necessarily pinpoint a country. These are AncestryDNA's groups for Africa:

Africa North
Cameroon/Congo
Mali
Nigeria
Senegal
Africa Southeastern Bantu
Africa South-Central Hunter-Gatherers
Ivory Coast/Ghana
Benin/Togo

Some of those are specific countries, but even those groups aren't restricted to that one country and usually include surrounding areas. DNA isn't bound by modern political borders.

We got back as far as her father's Aunt's parents born around 1844 or before. They will highly consider DNA and they realize that their ancestors may have left to come here from one of the coast of Africa (Windward Coast, Ivory Coast, or Gold Coast) but their actual residence or birthplace could have been hundred of miles inland.
And they did not acquire their surname until they arrived at the Port of Charleston (S.C.) and went to work for a farm owner. No one kept records of birth names and birth places of slaves as far as I can guess so this effort is curtailed and they can do DNA if they like.
