Hi all.. My father was in WW1 and 2.. I'm looking for someone to research the records. I have some but I can't put a timeline together and I'd like to have one for my grandkids.. Does anyone know what or where to find someone to do the research for me? or what to Google to find one?

thanks, elliedeee

If he served in the U.S. military:

National Archives:
Request Your Military Service Records Online, by Mail, or by Fax
https://www.archives.gov/veterans/mi...ervice-records

But, keep in mind that a lot of records were destroyed in a fire in the 1970's.

Thanks.. I'll try the National Archives and see what they send. Yes.. he was in the US military. He started out as a Merchant Marine.

I have some of his records and the ships he was on and it's those ships and the action that he saw during those times that I'd like to find out about. I know one of his ships was torpedoed once and many died.. but not sure which war it was. In addition to WW1 and 2... he was in another war too but I can't remember which one.

I'd also like to find out what medals he received and get replacements of them. I have some tiny little cards showing what medals he got, but unfortunately not the medals themselves.

I tried putting some of it together myself but I end up confusing myself with the dates etc. so I'd really like to hire someone to do this research for me but I'm not sure where to look for one..

Where did he live? There may be old newspaper articles about his service, especially if he lived in a smaller town.

Many old newspapers have been digitized. Check with the local public library or historical society.
