Starred matches are people YOU have starred, like a bookmark. The system doesn't do it for you. So if you haven't starred any, you won't have any. Shared ancestor hints only happen if you've attached a tree to your kit and you have ancestors that go back far enough to also be found in the trees of your matches. Neither means you don't have any DNA matches, it's unlikely you don't have any DNA matches at all in a database of over 10 million unless maybe you are a recent immigrant from a country the test is not available in. Even so, people in that situation usually have some matches with other Americans who share an ancestor from the old country. Maybe you don't have any "4th cousins for closer" but if you open your match list there will likely be people listed, at least some 5th-8th cousins. Some people seem to misunderstand that the stats on the homepage where is says how many 4th cousins or closer, how many shared ancestor hints, etc make up their entire match list but it doesn't. Have you actually clicked on "view all DNA matches"?

You probably turned off the "match" feature.

Look at your profile if you used ancestry dot com and make sure that you chose the option to review matches. If you did and it it still isn't showing, then you need to call ancestry.

A co-worker of mine had something similar occur and it was a bug in their system. She called and it was corrected within 24 hours.

But the stars as noted, are ones you add yourself - the system doesn't do that but you should have some matches. It would be as if you don't exist at all if you had 0 matches. Note I'm a "minority" (I'm black) and I have over 500 matches on ancestry.
