Is there much advantage to the tests when that's the case.
The ethnicity report is not going to tell you much, it's only an estimate and shouldn't be taken very literally. The DNA matches can be very useful, I've broken down some brick walls with them, but it does take a lot of work and if you're not willing to put the effort into it, it's probably not worth it.

Would Ancestry DNA tell me more about the region my English ancestors lived? Somewhere between Leeds and Liverpool, but that's a big area. Would like to narrow it down somehow. TIA
Probably not. AncestryDNA do have Genetic Communities for "Northern England & the Midlands", "West Midlands & North West England", and "Yorkshire & Pennines". Liverpool would fall under NW England and Leeds under Yorkshire, but there is no assurance of getting any Genetic Communities (and you don't get a percentage for it). If you don't share enough DNA with the reference database (and in my experience you have to share a LOT of DNA to get a GC - like at least half your DNA needs to be from that region) then you won't get a GC. Almost half my husband's ancestry is from the Manchester area of England, and even he only gets the more generic GC for "Northern England & the Midlands" - he does not get one for "West Midlands & North West England".
