Not sure when this came out, but I only noticed it today. Of course I impulsively ponied up the $9.99 to see if they got my predicted traits right or wrong.
Well, they didn't do very well. But I guess they will improve as we all give them the correct answers and they re-adjust their predictive data. Blue means they got it right.
1. Cleft Chin: They predicted I have it. Wrong, I don't.
2. Finger length: They predicted my ring finger is longer than my index finger. Wrong, it's the opposite.
3. Earlobe type: They predicted I have attached earlobes. Wrong, I have unattached.
4. Earwax type (who even knew that was a thing to have "dry, crumbly" earwax?): They said I have wet. Yes, I guess I do.
5. Eye Color: They predicted I have light eyes. Yes, I do.
6. Freckles: they predicted I have them. I have some, not a lot.
7. Hair color: they predicted I have brunette. I have natural blond hair.
8. Hair type: they predicted I have wavy. No, it's pretty damned straight.
9. Hair strand thickness: they predicted mine is average. No, it's pretty "fine."
10: Iris patterns: They predicted I have furrows, crypts, and rings. I see the rings, but the other things, I'll just have to take their word for it.
11. Male hair loss: N/A for females. But it predicts my male relatives have a high chance of hair loss. Nope, my Dad is 75 and has a full head of hair. So does my mom's brother, also in his 70s.
12. Skin pigmentation: they predict I have light to medium. No I'm far into the pale/pasty range.
13. Unibrow: They predict I might have one. No I don't. I do pluck, but never had hairs sprout in the middle.
14. Asparagus metabolite detection (what?): they predict that I might detect a smell in my pee after eating asparagus. I've heard of that, but I hate asparagus, so never had the pleasure of testing this out.
15. Bitter sensitivity: they predict I might be extra sensitive to a bitter taste in certain vegetables. Yes, definitely. Pretty much why I can't abide asparagus. and don't get me started on kale.
16. Cilantro aversion: they predict that I like cilantro. Yes, I love it! I never understand when people say it has a dirty buggy taste when to me it's so refreshing.
17. Sweet sensitivity: They predict that I often find things to be "too sweet." Yes, absolutely! I definitely don't have a sweet tooth and get disgusted when things taste too sweet.
18. Umami sensitivity: they predict that I'm "a little less sensitive" to umami flavors. I think that's wrong, if "sensitive" means liking them, I actually love rich, savory flavors.
So they go 7 out of 18 correct (leaving out that asparagus pee thing).
Did anyone else get any better results?
Was this worth $9.99?
For me, they got everything right except cleft chin and unibrow. I don’t have a cleft chin when they said I probably do, and they said I likely don’t have a unibrow but I did before I plucked it until it never grew back. However, it is worth noting my dad has a cleft chin so I may have the genes for it even if I don’t have it myself, maybe that’s what it picked up on.
I got better results. The earlobes were wrong and I think I have fine hair where they said average. They said I also have light to medium skin which I think must be because I freckle. The palest skin doesn't freckle.
I was mostly impressed that it said "it looks like you’ve got the DNA for blonde hair" and "Your genes suggest that not only is your hair a lighter shade, but you also carry a variation for red hair. Maybe you’re not a redhead, but you could have a kid who is." One of my kids had reddish hair briefly as a kid (before it turned blonde). I've always loved red hair.
Most of mine were right. Somehow the earwax trait is a super easy trait to track as I've seen it in several dna trait results.
