Hi. I am trying to find a ship's manifest from 1954 showing seamen working on a particular ship based in the US, Lykes Shipping Line, and that transported goods to Liverpool and Manchester or Salford, England. I've searched Ancestry and find nothing on the particular ship the "Sue Lykes". A web search came up empty too.

Does anyone know how I can find this info? I looked at the National Archives but couldn't figure out how to search.

Any suggestions are much appreciated - thanks!

Here's some info from National Archives UK.
I am not certain if merchant seamen were manifested, or not.

I find searching their site confusing. I'll try again. from what I've gathered so far, the record would not be a UK record, that it would be filed in the US based on port of entry which appears to likely be NY with it being a US based ship.

Many thanks again for your help!

Searched for: Sue Lykes
Picked all "data sources" except for web pages.
Looks like this ship went all over the place. You have a lot of reading to do. Good luck.

Local newspapers would list sailings and arrivals of ships. Try looking at local Manchester or Liverpool newspapers for June / July 1954. It would usually list day of sailing and where headed.

I found a manifest on Ancestry.com for Sue Lykes sailing from Liverpool to New Orleans Oct. 1954. The seamen were manifested.

Now we just have to find the manifest for June / July.

Sue Lykes sailed from Liverpool May 6th, 1954, arrived May 22nd (stopping at Honduras May 18th), sailed June 2nd from Mobile, Alabama, stopped at Tampa, Florida and sailed for Liverpool June 3rd.

On Ancestry I found a manifest for Sue Lykes sailing from Barrow in Furness, England on July 8th, 1954 and arriving in New Orleans July 23rd.

42 crew members.

What is the name of the person you are looking for?
