I really don't see how that's possible, like I say, less than 3% of the US population has tested and less than 1% of the world population. I'm sure more people than that have an interest in their ethnicity, especially when all it requires is $100 or less and a bit of spit in a tube. It just seems highly coincidental that just as these privacy concerns crop up, we see a decline in interest. I regularly see people on Facebook groups warning people not to take the DNA test because they'll "sell your dna" and "law enforcement will have access" - or worse, "you'll be denied health insurance because of it" etc (most of which is based on ignorance, especially when it comes to private databases like AncestryDNA and 23andMe).
I truly believe that kind of fear mongering spreads quickly and can have a big impact.
