Slavic is an upper ethnicity whose subgroups are Russian, Serbian, Croatian, Polish, etc.

Mediterranean is an upper ethnicity whose subgroups are Greek, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, etc.

Just like these two, American is also an upper ethnicity whose subgroups are Italian-American, German-American, Irish-American, Mexican-American, Black-American, etc. Right?

Sort of, but not exactly. The Slavic and Mediterranean nations along with other European nations are classified as the Caucasian group, they are not classified as upper ethnicities. USA is classified as a multi-racial and multi-ethnic nation, not as an upper ethnicity.

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/...ed-states.html

"The US is a multi-racial and multi-ethnic country. The state officially categorizes its population into six groups: Caucasian, African American, Native American/Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander, Asian, and Native Hawaiian. From those groups, Americans identify with ethnic groups that are even more specific......."

There are 21 specific ethnic groups, if you look at the website above you can see what they are. Within those ethnic groups there are also many more sub-groups including people of two or more races - see at link below for a break down of sub-groups:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americans - American culture and law does not equate nationality with race or ethnicity, but with citizenship and permanent allegiance

(Likewise, Canada also has 6 different groups which are broken down into 20 main ethnic groups which are further broken down into hundreds of specific ethnic sub-groups.)

During the last 2000 USA census 6.9% chose to identify their origins as American with 10 states with results between 11.7%-20.8%. Almost all of these states are either in the Appalachia region or the South. The USA population is no where near being coalesced into an ethnicity.

I think American is an ethnicity like Slavic, Germanic and etc. because Americans share the same values. I mean, an Italian-American is far closer to a black-American than she is to a regular Italian.

Close enough and so long as we're limited to the continental sense of "American" vs the political or cultural uses.

You're not understanding what ethnicity means. What you're talking about is culture.

You're right: Homo Sapiens are far more alike genetically than they are different, but our adaptive capacities have created many different cultures over millennia.

The ONLY American "upper ethnicity" would be Native Americans. Europeans colonized them and don't get to steal their ethnicity. They already stole the land.
