The image below is a screen shot of the Occupation column taken from an 1887 Death Record listing. I would appreciate any thoughts on what you think the 3rd line says. (The one just above "Supt...")
Thanks for your help.

Superintendent woolen(?) mill.

It would help to see the entire certificate to compare letter formations. The third word is probably the activity that was being supervised.

Also check the 1880 Federal Census if the deceased person is American. The occupation may be listed there, too.

You can also look for an obituary.

OK, so I did a lousy job explaining what I posted. Let me try again...

The 4 lines are completely unrelated, representing four different people. I am only interested in the third one. The one that looks like it starts with a "C".

In the 1880 census, he was a farmer, but he had moved since that time, now living within a town. There was no obituary, per se. Simply a 2-line death notice with name, age, cause of death.

OK.

It would still help to see the entire entry.

Since you have the date and place of death a formal death certificate might be available.

The lettering doesn’t seem to fit but my first thought was Carpenter.

I tried to make that fit, too.

PD,

If you have an account with Ancestry, and know the State and town of the Death Record, you can search the 1880 Census for anybody with the occupation "supt woolen mill". I did and got hits on 119 pages from the entire 1880 Census. I looked at the first 10 for any clues re the unknown occupation, but no luck. Some were related; weaver, carder, clothier,

Select the 1880 cenus, select State, then ony enter supt woolen mill in the Occupation field.

BTW, there were more than 1 "supt woolen mills" on the 119 pages

Here is one name on a page:

Good Luck......

It really might help if you could show us more. For instance, is that part of a list in which his name would be to the left, then his occupation? Is his date of death and cause of death shown in the same handwriting? The writing is sloppy but if we could see something else written by the same person, we could get some clues. With this sample all I can say for sure is it starts with a capital C and has a T towards the end.
