My great-grandmother's middle name was Itylene. Haven't found that one anywhere else.

I remember my uncle used to call his wife "effie", her name was Frieda.
Suppose some could use that for Evelyn but I hear Evie more often than not.

Love when the unusual name is a surprise to even the person who has it!
My mother who is in her 80's is Marie but everyone calls her Pat (why even she doesn't
know). Her license, marriage certificate are all in the name Marie.
When she went to get her passport while in her 60's she brought her birth certificate to the office and it said Mariya.
At that time my grandmother was still alive and was able to explain.
Apparently my mom was born at home and the birth was registered by the mid-wife for whom
english was not her language, so she wrote as it sounded.
My grandmother wanted the name Marie so the midwife put down her version of Maria which was Mariya.

When I was born my mom named me after both grandfather, John and Edward. Common simple names, no problem.

When my sister was born she named her Melissa Christine, also a family name.

My paternal Grandmother had a fit with our names and told my mother that if thats the best she could do , that she(my grandmother) would name the next one for her!

I am grateful for my common simple name compared to the names my grandmother had for her kids:

Densel
Orville
Eudolf
Eunice
Zola Marie

Never heard of it before, but that's a pretty name.

Nona is an Italian term for grandma.

Nina? Short for some first name from Italian or Spanish....

I'm just sayin'.
