Honestly when I found out how much it would cost to move my furniture to my new place a few states over...I just sold almost everything! I figured with the money I saved from not moving things and the money made selling things I could get all brand new things.

Oh also look at donating too! I did that with a bunch of stuff and that worked out well.

I found large objects do not like to travel. Fridges, washers, dryers and sofas. By the time you try and set them up you realize they are falling apart.

Also money saver. Purchase the trailer, often the rental price can equal the rental. You can keep the trailer or sell it and regain some capital.
