I have used liquor boxes when I moved here. At the time, my brother worked at a liquor store so it was easy. It was great for glasses and vases.

Liquor stores some leave them outside or in the doorways of the store to take for free! toy stores-all they do is throw them out anyway, might as well give them to someone who needs them!

Default Moving Box Size

The various movers, esp. long distance, like to have packing done in standard size boxes. It makes it much easier to load the truck and to keep the boxes from shifting inside the trailer. Remember, that the tighter the packing within the trailer, the less breakage.

I posted on my local freecycle, and a woman emailed me within 10 minutes, offering me a ton of boxes.

If you go to your local walmart around an hour or 2 after that overnight crew starts stacking there shelves, you will get all the boxes you need. The best ones are the Kelloggs cereal, they are very big and strong and will hold just about anything. If you get there early enough you can get them before they break them up, this way you don't need to use alot of tape on each box, it worked for me. As far as the wardrobe boxes, I found that the best ones where sold at U-HAUL, they where large and handled alot of clothes. The ones I bought from the mover where small and held next to nothing.

That's because movers have to carry them everyday without damaging the property their being moved in and out of!

The uHaul wardrobes are great cartons for storing hanging clothes in garages, basements, and storage units, but can be a pain for smaller, inexperienced shippers or homeowners to carry when fully loaded - especially up and down stairs or through long hallways.

It's like anything else, if you are careful you will not have a problem. I had no problem moving them across my house into my garage using a small hand truck. My movers also had no problems moving the U-HAUL boxes. They where great. you can easily fit twice as much stuff into them compared to the small wardrobe boxes sold by the movers. It's an option especially if you have alot of coats and bulky items.

I tried Craigslist today just to see what would pop and some guy was giving away 35 boxes. However, right now I am not near ready to pack and it would just take up room that I don't have.

My husband received some business samples at home yesterday. I felt the "flutes" in the box they arrived in and they were superb. I nabbed that box and stored it in the basement immediately!
