I'm considering using this company for an upcoming December move from MA to CO and this thread has certainly eased my mind as far as making my decision easier. The quoted price is very reasonable. I've read some other threads in which they cite problems with the bulkhead not latching properly. Anyone else have issues with this?? Also, how do you lock your valuables in the truck for when it is parked overnight?? Do they require you to purchase additional insurance for your stuff in the trucks??
ajmac,
Check out the link on page 1 - by Kingfish22 (thank you btw, very helpful stuff). I'm pretty sure ABF is considered a freight forwarder, not subject to same rules/coverages as a moving company. You need to get your own insurance to be covered. I think that was for the cube but I'd check further if your using part of a trailer too.
I forgot to mention this but my stuff arrived in Las Vegas yesterday.
Safe and sound.
$2681.00 for 8 feet of space that I packed up to the roof!
I don't think it could get any cheaper than that.
Sept 10 I'll let you know how well the contents held up.
I can't wait.
Also---I took some pics that I'll post then too.
Just reserved my truck from Salem, MA to Denver for a December move date. I'm getting a cheaper rate by packing it at the terminal and receiving it at the terminal. Quoted rate based on 12ft is $1304, if I were to get door to door service it was about $400 more. Found out that Penske rents trucks for $29.95 for 24 hrs. plus .79 cents per mile. Glad I found out about ABF U-Pack from the city-data forum or else I'd be either driving a 16 ft. Penske truck spending roughly $2500 on the total expense, or get robbed by another moving company. The man I spoke with was very informative and pleasant, all of which things I've heard before, but now I got a first hand experience. Thanks for all the help, I'll post my progress as I get closer.
We just thought last night of using a PODS type company when we move from TN to ME. After reading this I went to their site and requested a quote. Sounds like a winner to me.
Ajmac10 :
How are you getting all the stuff to/from the terminal? Its going take ALOT more time to load/unload/load .... unload/load/unload everything at the termintal go to/from it. It may be worth the $400 to have it sitting in your driveway...

You do bring up a valid point and I have thought about it since I've made the reservation. But I can always change my mind and switch without any issues, I just wanted to lock in the rate now and change the logistics later if I had to.
Right now, about half of my stuff is in a storage unit and half in the house we're staying in, so in order to get it all in one place, a small truck or van will have to be rented to pack up the truck initially. We're not quite sure which apartment community we'll be moving to in Denver so I guess that's the reason for the terminal pick up at our destination. One nice thing about this company is that we can always make a change if necessary.

Well----it's not Sept 10 just yet---but I thought I'd share this pic of what I hope was a secure and tight packing job.
This is our 8 feet of space at ABOUT 90% done---we put a bed frame in front of this and some other stuff on the sides.
I acquired 3 cases of Bounty paper towels before hand for next to nothing so I used them as 'filler'.
What do you think?
