I am starting to think that they will be more under 55 communities for people like us, my parents live on a golf community in NJ and i am jealous because they have all their social activities and friends all around, no traffic. I love being active, so having pool, tennis clubhouse where i live is key. I want to be open to all areas of country too since my line of work in in hospitality. I am looking into south carolina and east coast florida. I tried naples and did NOT like it at all, everyone was over 55 and it was very very fake and very unhealthy. Nobody walks there, but are incredibly consumed with plastic surgery and cars. I like sport people. Keep posting. i will seek out these kinds of places, let me know what you find

Those places will not work for under 55 for one reason. Kids.

Frank is wrong about what he was posting. Ignore what he told you. Everyone seems to misunderstand the 80/20 rule.

You could always marry a 55+ and still stay if they die and you are under age.

For what it's worth we live in a semi rural golf course community in Pinehurst, NC. It is not age restricted but golf carts are permitted on all local roads and are allowed to cross but not drive on state roads. This allows you to drive all over the community roads and the paths to the local general store.
We are not like the Villages in that we do not have every store or restaurants in our community. It is a very relaxing community with just enough kids around so you don't feel like you are in deaths waiting room.

Resurrecting this thread. PDD..thak you for posting. What amenities are accessible in Pinehurst by golf cart? Grocery store? Gym? Library? Churches? Just wondering how truly convenient it is to get around by golf cart.

I am also considering Sun City Hilton Head.

Not very, it is just a convenience so you can get from your home to the golf course in your cart. No grocery stores, gyms. Maybe the library, a few restaurants and a church or two via cart.
I see very few carts on the roads.
