I have read that we should put our sofa on end to use up less space when moving. I am pretty sure that during our last move, the professional movers put our reclining sofa on end, but I can't be sure. Can anyone confirm that it would be ok for us to put our reclining sofa on end during our move?
Most professional movers transport sofas, hide-a-beds, loveseats and settees on their end. These types of overstuffed pieces tend to have their stuffing, springs and mechanical works damaged when you things are stacked on, in and around them sitting on the floor.
First secure the works by tieing the springs to the frame to prevent it from opening when lifted. Next place several pads beneath the end that will be resting on the floor. Pad the unit well and secure the protection with straps or tape. Place the overstuffed piece in the truck with the feet against the wall and the back facing the front wall of the truck.
If the profile of your equipment prevents it from stored vertically, it's OK to place it inside at an angle but it's important to take the pressure off of the corner that is closest to the floor. If it will only fit horizontally, place it on top of well-packed, stacked cartons and or furniture that is being used as base for the tier.
