If you were moving, unemployed to either state, which would you rather be in? And why. Also, your options in each state would be, Columbus Ohio or Hagerstown, Frederick area of Maryland.

the issue isn't which state is "nicer" (however you measure that)...
the issue is what skills YOU bring to the table and where THOSE jobs are.

I believe you'll find a higher cost of living in general in the Frederick / Washington County areas of MD, however you'll also find more opportunities in a variety of careers. This is mostly due to the areas proximity to DC, Baltimore, Hagerstown, and other smaller cities / towns.

Personally I would give my left 'you know what' (yeah, let's say arm) to move back to the town we lived in up in Maryland, about 20 minutes north of Frederick. But I'm just too darn comfortable in my career here (and in-state college tuition is pretty sweet!).

Good luck to ya'!

As mentioned above the Maryland cities would provide better access to jobs with their proximity to the I-270 corridor. With the current state of the economy, that should be your leading criteria.
