I cannot find a comparison. I think its difficult to compare one state to another. You can try here. Rankings of Public Schools

You can also look at greatschools.org. You need to compare individual schools though, not just the district.

According to Public School Review What’s Really Wrong with Detroit Public Schools - Public School Review , last year Detroit had "disheartening standardized test scores" (worst math scores in the nation) and the nation’s lowest graduation rate.

Detroit's public schools post worst scores on record in national assessment - Crain's Detroit Business - Detroit News and Information

You'll have to Google TX public schools to see what is going on there, but Detroit schools have been a mess for awhile. Countless articles about "failing Detroit Public Schools" and budget problems. Detroit schools struggle to solve budget woes - US news - Life - msnbc.com

Sounds like just about anywhere would be better than Detroit.

Really? LOL. I'm from Detroit and all and love my city, but I thought everyone knew the schools were about as bad as they come.

Anyhow, check out these resources:

- Census 2000 School District Profiles

GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community

SchoolDigger.com - School Rankings, Reviews and More - Public and Private Elementary, Middle, High Schools
