In the fall of 1987 when I was 21 years old I moved from the Denver CO area to North Miami Florida on the chance there might be a job for me after college.
There wasn't the one I was hoping for available when I got there and I ended up living out of my car for over a month until I found a job that would work.
I did something similar in June of 2009 when again I moved from Denver, CO but this time moving to south central PA.
I moved for a relationship that didn't work out but I ended up staying and met the love of my life in Allentown, PA.
That's where I am now.
Several years ago I decided I wanted to spend some time abroad. I found a place that would hire me to teach ESL and moved the Beijing, China. I didn't know what to expect, I just wanted an adventure
In my case, I knew I was only going to be gone a year so even if I had been disappointed or unhappy there (which I wasn't), it wouldn't be indefinite.
I would feel more trepidation if I were going far away, alone, for an indefinite period of time.
Many times. The first time was when I was 18, and left Honolulu (where I had gone to high school). I flew to California all by myself, without knowing a soul there or having a job or anything, with just one suitcase to my name. What a wonderful adventure!
I loved it. But a lot depends on your personality and what kinds of things you like.
I grew up on Long Island and followed my now exhusband to Phoenix. I am now remarried and following my now husband to NC, he is already there. Funny thing is, my ex is following us there. This way he can continue to be close to our son. Strange world
