Just wondering, has anybody here ever decided that they needed a change and after researching a state say, via internet packed up and moved before visiting first?
No, but I've packed up and moved to a state, sight unseen, without researching it on the internet because the internet didn't exist and wouldn't for decades. Does that count?
I did - moved to N. Va. from Pa in '82 and I'm still here! This was before internet research, etc. - a coworker had a daughter (who I'd never met either) that lived in MD - I went w/her and her husband to visit the daughter - decided to move to the general area. Didn't have a job, know anybody, etc. - worked out great - moved to Reston Virginia then. I do only suggest this if: (1) you are young and flexible, willing to have roommates and have some money saved up, and (2) have some money saved up and have great skills that you know you'd find a job (or at least take something to pay your way) but at least have some rent in hand.
I've only done it once, (at least after I could make the decision on my own, my parents were military so we did it a lot when I was a kid) but my husband was from that state does that count?
Upped and moved to western Montana because I'd always wanted to be in Montana thanks to a childhood addiction to cowboy movies, and I had a job offer there which -- shazaam! -- made the move easy. Loved the beauty there; loved the idea of actually being a Montanan.
Then moved to Washington, sight unseen, because Seattle had the kind of population density that would have a large, healthy job market. That was over 20 years ago, and I've loved it and count myself extremely fortunate.
Why do you ask? Are you thinking of doing that, and wondering how people fare after they do it?

Yes, I did it already 7 yrs ago and to a state that made people cringe whenever I mentioned it as for how we fared, as the song goes, 'if I make it here, I'll make it anywhere'
