I am relocating out of the area. Can anyone recommend a good long distance mover?

Thanks in advance.

Stay away from the brokers on the internet. They will hook you up with thieves.

Try the American Moving and Storage assn site for members.

Don't jump at a low, non guaranteed estimate. Be sure the price is hard before agreeing.

We used ABF. It's a u pack and they drive kind of thing. We saved tons of money doing it that way. For us to move from CO to NC, it cost us $2,200. I think that was a steal.

I used North American Van Lines and was very happy with them. We did our own packing and they picked the items up from our home and delivered them to our new home in NC. The driver that lead the team loading the truck is the same one that drove the contants of our home and unloaded them here in NC. He got a local North American Van Lines crew here in NC to unload it. I liked the idea of at least the driver staying with the shipment in case there was a problem on this end. It worked out well and I recommend them. Good luck!

We moved from Oregon to NC in July and we used ABF (Upack.com) and we were pretty happy with them.

Thanks again for all of your posts. I don't mind packing and unpacking boxes. I just don't want to pack and unpack the freakin' truck.

Default we used Allied and were happy

We used Allied to move from Durham to Boston. We were very happy. The actual movers lived in Durham. They were able to get our couch up a tight stairwell (no damage to the wall or couch). Everyone else in our building had to have their couches hoisted up by a crane and brought in through the porch.
It would have been an additional $800 to pack our stuff and my husband and I decided against it however packing was a lot of work and stressful (and the source of many arguments between my hubby and I) and in hind sight it would have been totally worth the $800
