It's in state, city to city is about an hour and 10 minutes drive. It's all the furniture in a 3 bedroom house, no formal rooms, fridge, washer, dryer, upright freezer and about 1/3 our belongings in boxes. And our new house has a steep driveway.
Depends on how much stuff, and how many flights of stairs, but I usually tip $20/head at each end. If its the same crew doing a move in one day maybe 75$ total.
We had 3 packers/movers whom we tipped $50 apiece at the start, and $100 to the driver. At the end we tipped the unloaders $50 apiece. However, it was a four BR house with a LOT of heavy stuff - I had a ceramics shop with plaster molds and 2 kilns, and DH had an entire woodworking and mechanic's shop, plus a LOT of garden stuff including a mower and rototiller, all of which went 1700 miles.
Well I was in the USAF for 24 years and moved 12 or more times. I have never tipped a mover. We will buy them lunch and provide drinks for them. I can't imagine why you would need to tip them.
Finally the voice of reason. This whole tipping thing has gotten ridiculously out of hand. I was reading this thinking "tipping movers? What the ----?" I wouldn't buy them lunch or a damn thing. They get paid to do a job. Do it.
Right. I said the same thing when my hubby mentioned tipping. I thought that was what the salary was for. Until I hear some of the stories he comes back with. They are told a certain weight prior to arrival and it's way more than estimated, or the person moving is not prepared and they turn out prepping for packing in a dirty unorganized setting. I guess anyone who is handling my valubles and goes above and beyond on service deserves a lil something extra.
