I have a truck driving job lined up in the area I want to move to, but finding a room rental or apartment within range of money saved has been depressing to put it bluntly.
As an alternative, I've found nearby tent camping locations at an in-town RV park with reasonable rates. Since I'm planning on taking a Greyhound out there and walking to my potential employer, this seems like a good way to hold over enough money until paychecks start coming in.
When my husband started in his career years ago, he and many men in his same line of work were working out of town in very expensive areas and away from their families. It wasn't possible to support two homes (ours here, and a separate apartment for him) on his one paycheck. So he and a few of his co-workers rented an RV in a park for a few months, until they were able to secure transfers back to their home areas. It worked out well, and saved a bunch of $.
you gotta do what you gotta do and why shouldn't it be a good idea till you can get something better? It's only temporary and part of the moving experience.
I got up in the morning, walked across the sand to the bathroom carrying my suit. Showered, shaved etc and then dressed excpet my coat and tie and shoes. Rolled up my pantlegs and walked back to the tent to get a jacket, tie shoes and socks. Kissed wifey farewell and walked to my car. Kept some baby powder in the car to get the sand off my feet then put on my socks and shoes. At the office, I would put on my tie and coat. I remember that fondly, but it is probably nostalgia. I was not waiting for a check, I had rented a room on a boat and the boat went sailing and a mast broke off in a storm and they were two weeks late getting back, so I had no home.
When your job starts will you be on the road for days at a time or is it local driving?
It's a local position in an entirely different area.
I'm just wanting to live life on my own and not risk having to roll back to/through the same state I was trying to get out of.
Had a decent, OTR gig not too long ago where I was picking up and delivering to the same places every week.
Got accustomed to the routine. I'm not too big on different places every week.
If you could find an Occupy protest you could camp there and save on campground fees
Clovis NM is too small for that.
But, the idea's been discussed between people I know all the time
