We did a container service on our last move. Not the smallish one but the type where you pay-per-foot of semi-trailer that you use. My biggest feedback from that experience is make sure nothing can move - that things are not just packed tight but protected well. The straps we used rubbed through half the wood on one of my dining room chair legs.
I would obtain a price from several movers and then price POD’s, yourself, to come up with an accurate number. It was really simple and it turned out less that what I allowed for.
On the POD website, they have a list of recommended movers and you can call them for an estimate to load and depending on where your moving to, the mover hourly rate could be less.
We moved from NY to Virginia with two POD’s and it worked out well. I unloaded all that I could and then two movers emptied out all of the heavier furniture and set it up in place as well. I did purchase about $250 of moving blankets, but all in all, it was a good move!
