For those that have moved, not due to necessity, but by choice--did you use your gut/intuition to move or was it purely an act of reason/logic? Both? How did you choose your new place and what factors went into your decision making?
For me, it has always been about upward mobility in employment. Sure, taking a new job is a risk, and moving across the country. But, I look at my resume, and feel like if a move will add to my resume, and make me more marketable, it is worth the risk. So far, I have never made a mis-step. Being single, and supporting 2 others, is a huge responsibility. I have to make money, and make sure that there is financial stability for my family. Most of the time, I just take the risk, and go for it. I have turned down some jobs, due to timing, or other factors. And, I don't look like a "job hopper"...it has always been career moves that make sense, upward mobility.
We moved several times for my husband's career. There was a move or two we turned down. (India) I think it was good for us. Most places were very good experiences. Our last move to DC....not so much.
Financial opportunity and logic usually make the decision for us.
