From what I understand, you're in the best place, mentally, to move when there's a place you want to move to... not from.

It sounds like you're coming from a place of just wanting to get away from your current life?

I'm less than two weeks away from doing this, and people here think I am really brave for moving across the country without a job or anything. I never looked at it that way. I guess people just want to stay where they are.

No telling why people think you are brave. I didn't go to college right out of high school and when I did a few years later, people commented on my bravery or how courageous I was, which was the farthest thing from the truth. There was nothing brave about it, courageous either. I delighted in the experience. I loved the 4 years. I think they thought if they did what I did it would be those things.

Save enough money in case things go "wrong." Without a doubt, something will because that's life. Some factor you hadn't thought of or something gets more expensive than you thought. And, marketable skills, gotta have those to freely move and find a job elsewhere.

What do you think you will find there? Sounds like you just don't want to be with your SO anymore, but are afraid to tell her.
I think you need to isolate the cause of your unhappiness before you go off to a different place.

Default So many of these threads ring a bell

I once went to miami on a vacation , after several times down there, and the last one staying with a bunch of my combat vet friends, I was persuaded to take a exteneded vacation( bikini's on south beach didnt have anything to do with it ) this all took place within a week, problem was, I drove down with a friend, once down there I told him, well Ive got good news and Ive got bad news, he says whats that? I said well good news is its only going to take us 3 hrs to get home versus the 20 hr drive, bad news is, you gotta fess up for a plane, train or bus ticket because im leaving my car here, so I can go fetch a u-haul with my Harley and clothes and im outta there!!! So I must say yes having more belongings now makes things more of a challenge , but do it again? you bet!!! and im about to !!! Only different state and state of mind for that matter!!

Just thought I would update you all on how we are getting along. We packed up our life on Long island last year (july) and moved to Pittsburgh. We have two boys and a dog and none of us had a job to come to.

The kids settled down into school in a heartbeat. They love their school, have made friends, are getting good grades and it is wonderful to hear them coming home and talking all about school.

I didnt look for a job for four months as we had an emergency in Ireland with my mil so dh and I took turns going back and fro to ireland for 2 weeks at a time. Once Nov came, I did start to look for work and had a temp job in 2 weeks. It is temp to permeament and I should be made permament in two weeks. I like my job and like the people I work with.

Dh hasnt started looking for work yet and is liking his job as a stay at home dad. Its a different arrangement but it works for us now.

One son has started playing rugby and also began the sea cadets. The other son is doing wrestling.

Our lives are so much stressfree here. We are getting to like our house a lot, are calm and having a great life so far.

It can be done ; one can pack up and begin again.
