Hi all
Thank you so much for your posts. Yes, renting is a good tip. I have to agree I am thinking of renting initially to get the feel of things first. The only draw back on that one is uprooting the kids again once I find the part of town that fits us best. I did not consider reading the local newspaper, that's a good tip too, I must look into that.

I was wondering how you all ended up meeting and getting to know locals or other transplants? I want to know how to get out there to meet people so that we can (my children especially) can meet others and build friendships, as that is what we will miss most about what we are leaving behind.

Your children will meet other children at school and in the neighborhood where you live. If you are going to be working, you will meet people there. Volunteering in your new location is a good way to meet people, particularly if you are not working. Also if you have a hobby (art, scrapbooking, gardening, etc.), you can meet like minded people that way.

It is a club that does playgroups, field trips, park days, moms night out. I have been a member to one for a couple years so that my young son had friends his age. and I have found friends also.

Use the relocation tools from realtor web-sites and job-sites. Remember research, planning, & execution (RPE) are the key to a successful move. We did 7 moves in 22 years (military) RPE always ensure a smooth relocation. Imagine the following:

Ogden Utah to Panama City Republic of Panama
Panama City Republic of Panama to Satellite Beach Fl
Satellite Beach Fl to Homestead Fl
Homestead Fl to San Antonio TX
San Antonio TX to Grand Forks ND
Grand Forks ND to Keflavik Iceland
Keflavik Iceland to Navarre Fl

Good Luck
