I might not be in the right forum for this but here it goes anyway:
I have lived in L.A for about 8 years now and am considering moving to NY/NJ.
( I am a single female in my late forties)
For those who have made the move, what are the pros and cons:
cost of living, weather, traffic, people's relations, opportunities to make a living, quality of life in general...
Funny, I did the opposite basically
Cost of living: High, but since you're from Los Angeles you're probably no stranger to high cost of living... in short, comparable. You'll find NJ (outside of Hoboken) to be cheaper, if you're talking about the city at least.
Weather: 4 seasons. Hot, humid, sticky summers. Mild springs, nice weather, but still somewhat humid. Fall is basically a NorCal winter: foggy, cool, rainy. Winter will hurt you since you're from SoCal. Very cold, frequently below freezing, lots of snow, slush, ice.
Traffic: Nowhere near as bad as SoCal... then again, I ride a motorcycle so I don't get stuck in it anyway lol... but in the city it's obviously bad... horrible drivers too. NJ has HIGH insurance rates.
Peoples Relations: We probably can't relate since I'm a male in my very late teens and you're a woman in her late forties.
Opportunities to make a living: Once again, can't really help you there. All I know from my short life is that the economy is garbage. I hear the west coast has it worse though.
Quality of Life in General: Whatever you make of it... just like anywhere else. People generally aren't that friendly outside of their cliques. Air and water are fine... and without diving into specific areas I'd say the tri-state area gets a good bill of health.
PM me if I can help in any other ways. Lived here for 19 years.
