I've been on for a long time it's great! Be careful when people come over. Most are friendly. Also, remember folks may not come when they say or not come at all. Just a tip.
I'm a freecycle member too, but I learned REAL Quick to use an alternate email address as the emails come by the hundreds and I got sick of my main email address being clogged with freecycle. Plus, there are about four members who post about 10 times a day...each..so that gets irritating. I finally opened a yahoo address and redirected the emails
I agree with Mike though, keeping the house relatively lean not only makes it more attractive to potential buyers, but it also makes the house easier to clean!
Can anyone recommend a good estate sale firm around Basking Ridge, New Jersey? My elderly parents need help in selling more than 40 years of accumulated stuff, some valuable, some not.
Another helpful source is Craigslist.
I gave away a bunch of plants through them. I loved my plants dearly and wanted them to go to good homes, and I think they did.
But Freecycle is good too!
Thank you all for the Freecycle information! What a good idea. I will tell my customers. Well, I am a realtor. It's true about cleaning out the house to give it more room. If any of you are thinking about selling your home, look on the web for "staging" advice. Staging a home starts with cleaning out the junk and making space. After that, lots of tricks are used to make the house feel inviting. These things include lighting, aromas, curb appeal, and the flow of a house. These are all nice things to know whether we are selling our homes or not. Staging advice comes in handy before a party too.
For anyone thinking of moving during Spring 2007.....
....now is the time to start the process of cleaning out the house. Donations to Goodwill, Salvation Army or other non-profit service groups can get you a tax deduction on your 2006 taxes if done by 31 Dec 06.

I am in complete agreement re craigslist. I sold my organ in less than 2 hours of posting it! So if you have good stuff that you don't necessarily want to give away, try this. I also agree with the originator of this thread -- yard sales are the pits. I really would rather give it away than deal with that.

Yes, Craigslist is another good tool. Read the cautions on craigslist about the scammers, but that is mostly for big ticket items.

I should've gotten rid of my old 33 RPM records years ago, but didn’t.
