Distribute the weight evenly as you are loading, put everything in a box, make sure you have everything padded and wrapped properly.
One more thing, get a big roll of shrink wrap from your local office supply shop or department store and put shrink wrap around everything with drawers or doors and be sure to wrap the corners well. It will take a minimum of 3 complete wraps around the items, use more if necessary and when you wrap the corners put a wash cloth on the corner first then shrink wrap around it. You will not be sorry you did this. Include all of your dressers, appliances, hutches, microwave, etc when you shrink wrap.
I used to label boxes with the contents, but that makes it easier for theft (I was packing stuff for a storage unit, though). I would recommend NOT doing that and just put the name of the room where it goes. I put a contents list inside the top of each box but nothing on the outside that might give away it's value. I took my safe and important documents in my vehicle. Never pack that stuff or trust it with anybody else.
Tip: Call ABF and get a quote. They charge less and use a higher quality version of the POD. My wife almost selected PODS for our first move because they spent far more advertising, but when we looked for competitors to get a cheaper price we were able to uncover ABF. Massively better value.
BTW: We definitely over weighted our moving cube. They didn't check the weight either time that we used them, and we were not charged anything.
In the ABF containers, did you tie off the furniture to keep wheeled things from sliding? If so, what kinds of tie did you use and were the containers fitted with something to tie down to?

I agree. PODS quoted me a little over $1000 for a 300 mile move. ABF relo cubes were about half the price.
A friend used PODS for storage once. It was actually cheaper to unload the POD at their service center and move everything into a Penske truck for transport than to allow PODS to transport it.

I am going to be using two PODS to move. Any tips?
Just like Relocubes, pack "high and tight." Fill in spaces with moving blankets or improvise. I double bagged casual clothing, bed blankets, and other soft things, which I then packed into my relocubes. I used clear plastic bags (used for lining litter barrels at events -- the DIY centers carry them) so that I didn't mistake anything for garbage. Yes, two of the bags ripped, but dropping several blankets on the grass wasn't a problem.
