I posted this in the Dallas forum also.

Hi,

I posted in the Dallas forum a while back asking for general relocation advice. On Monday I had a phone screening with a major hospital for a position and I have another phone interview on Friday. It seems like I may have a pretty decent shot at getting the job and I'd gladly welcome the opportunity to relocate to a different area as I would need to finish school. I'm currently unemployed in Indianapolis and have been since March. My girlfriend and I have a 4 month old and while she makes OK money, I need to be gainfully employed and I think Dallas might provide that opportunity as well as more educational opportunities.

In the event that I'm hired, I'd assume that they would want me to start working pretty soon. My bank account is quickly running thin and at this point I think I could scrape enough together to get down there and at least stay at an extended stay hotel for a couple of weeks until I could get housing established. Another alternative is to stay with a friend of mine who recently relocated to Dallas. I plan on moving my girlfriend and child down as soon as I can establish housing.

I'm 23 and need to receive advice from some seasoned folks. Does this seem like a wise plan? I'm quickly running out of options in Indianapolis and need to make a move pretty soon.

There might be legal implications with you in one state and your child in another, especially if your girlfriend decides not to move, so you might want to be sure she's on board with it and also maybe check with legal aid or an attorney about any implications, as well as your rights. I don't know Indiana law.

Good luck landing that job! The Dallas economy is certainly more robust than Indy right now.

Sorry for such a late response, but I certainly appreciate your response and sound advice. I definitely did not consider potential legal issues that could arise. That's something I will definitely consider before making a final decision regarding my move. Thanks-a-million!
