Is it okay to use the Rubbermaid totes to pack things in? I have soooo many of them already and it is so easy to see the contents that I am hoping there isn't a rule (from major moving companies) that they cant or shouldn't be used....
the moving company i used was fine with the totes as long as they had covers. i taped the covers as someone mentioned. check with your company, however.
I just had an on-site quote from Allied Van Lines, and they guy said the totes are fine, and that they will shrink-wrap them to keep the lids on. He recollended NOT taping them, because that gets ugly tape residue on the totes.
Totes are good but also check out Space Bags. You can pack a lot of clothes, towels, no telling what else in those then vacuum the air out to shrink them. I think I've mentioned this on another thread but we have 2 Space Cubes (the big ones for things like bed spreads, winter clothes, etc) still upstairs unopened after 2 1/2 years and still air free.
We used totes for some stuff. A few were broken, cracked corners and lids. I would be sure you don't pack fragile or small items in case the tote fails.
I used loads of them when we moved. Mostly for thing like linens, sweaters, stuffed animals, Christmas decorations, boots/purses. Moving company said they would be fine as long as they weren't too heavy with books/tools/appliances. I didn't have any damage.
Totes work great, make sure you tape them shut as well!
