(first time poster here)

Hello!

My husband and I will be moving from Seattle to Chicago in the middle of January and since this will be our first move, we aren't quite sure what movers/companies we should go with.

We're driving our own vehicle and hauling some of our personal items that we don't want on the moving truck (computer, game consoles, guitars, etc) and want movers to do the rest (bed, desk, couch, etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions on movers or had a similar experience? I'm a bit lost and although I know moving it just a stressful thing in general, I'm terrified of our stuff not arriving for weeks, broken items, being charged for things last minute...

Also, since we're driving in January, any suggestions or tips for the best routes to take, preferably ones with hotel/gas stations along the way and less possibility of getting stuck in the snow (aka, not going through Montana), would be extremely helpful!

Thank you!

Actually going through Montana/NE Wyoming and South Dakota is your best course of action as you most certainly do not want to be on I-80 in my opinion which is notorious for poor weather and bad driving conditions in the winter. I-90 has very little treacherous sections since it mostly runs through valleys and plateaus, and offers plenty of places to stop along the way. Pay attention to the weather when you leave and make sure you're not timing your departure within 24-48 hours of a major west to east snowstorm.

I-90 Montana Exits Eastbound - Roadnow
I-90 Wyoming Exits Eastbound - Roadnow
I-90 South Dakota Exits Eastbound - Roadnow

In terms of movers I would recommend checking out local Seattle area mover ratings on Angie's List, Yelp and others.
