We will be moving approximately 3 hours from present location (NJ to Upstate NY). Some moving companies charge an hourly rate, and others charge by weight. Can anyone give me some information on how can I determine the most economical cost?

My best advice is to call the compainies that charge by weight and see if they offer a free in home estimate... where they come take a look at what you want to move, be sure to find out if they will stick to the price qouted even if they under-estimate the weight.

Thanks Corel. I think I will stick with the old companies like Allied and Mayflower. I don't like the idea of using an hourly rate.
