On three long hauls, I used local, family-owned and operated companies in the city of origin. I had an awful experience with a National mover, who used workers from hell, were over 2 weeks late on the delivery, broke several pieces of furniture and refused my reimbursement claims.
Thank you all for your time and expertise. We interviewed 4 companies and got an in home estimate. We end up selecting Mayflower as we received the best costumer service and they have a manager assigned for your entire move to be in touch with or any issues that may arise. All quotes were very similar within 2-400 dlls in between. We will be doing our own packing ( save $$$) and they will load and unload . Thanks again!!

I recently moved from Minneapolis MN to Charlotte NC. I used ABF-UPack. I was moving the contents of an 1100 sq ft apartment. I used about 12ft of trailer space and paid about $1280. As the name implies you pack the trailer. I had help from friends so I was really lucky in that regard. When I arrived in Charlotte I hired some people to help me unload the truck since I didn't really know anyone there. The process was seamless both ways. The staff was courteous and helpful the entire time. They could always be reached and the customer service was top notch. They did an exceptional job reaching out to me and ensuring that everything was being taken care of. They were also accommodating when I switched my trailer drop off dates twice. Also they have a dashboard where you can track everything too. So in a nutshell my panicky heart was soothed by great service.
As for packing materials, I rented all of the blankets for my furniture from U-haul. I think I paid $10 for two packs or something in that neighborhood. I got a surprising number of blankets too. Returning it was painless. I just dropped it off. Also, if you buy boxes from them you can return any unused boxes for a refund as long as you don't break the "sealed" portion of the boxes. I wound up using all my boxes but thought that was useful. The stretch wrap also came in handy. I paid just under $6.00 for that.
** please note: don't be cheap, buy the nylon straps to secure your belongings in the trailer. The trailer has slits that you can hook them to. I got mine from Home Depot. I bought a pack of four of the 12 ft HDX ratchet tie down nylon straps. I paid around $14.00 for mine. I know people suggest using rope or whatever but don't do it. Depending on the road conditions and/or the driver, your stuff can bounce around a little or a lot depending on how well you secured them. **
I haven't use moving company for moving purpose as I had little luggage. But one of my friend hired Braha Moving Systems for moving when he moved from Texas. He told me that he did research on many companies and found this company in budget.
