I might be working for a university on the east coast, and I'm currently working at a uni on the west coast. When I moved, my current uni gave me a $1500 relocation stipend although I had only moved from CA to AZ.

Is it norm for universities to give stipends to out-of-state staff? I'd like to know the norm because I'm getting mixed messages.

It's no longer the norm. If they want you badly enough, they might throw you that bone, but in most fields, there are plenty of qualified local candidates.

The only time that I have seen perks thrown at teachers is if they are hiring a department head or research specialist for the publicity. Otherwise, given the excess of teachers in most areas, you are on your own dime.
