Wow our situations are so similar. I have been here in the Tampa area for the past 10 years and unhappy living here for the most part. It's just not for me. I think I have finally decided to take a leap of faith and move back to VA next year after my son graduates. Life is too short to be unhappy. I am going to trust God, pray about it and go for it. About to take my first REAL leap and I'm nervous but so excited! I did a baby leap when I left my secure nursing job to start a business with my husband, so I guess that kinda counts...
We're 33, have a successful business and 2 kids and never lived anywhere but where we are now..the dry desert in Washington state. We're wanting to pack up our family and business and head to the Oregon coast where we don't know anyone- but our heart calls us there, so we vacation every 2-3 months and dread coming back home when we leave. Why not live where your heart is instead of just visit? Like my mom says, if it doesn't work out, you can always go back! Like one of the previous posters said- doesn't feel like I've lived yet because I've taken no leaps!

WOW!!!! Finally someone that understands where I'm coming from, I still can't believe I've been here this long because everything is so mediocre. Not to mention, it amazes me how people can be so content with this way of living, paycheck to paycheck and barely making enough to meet their bills.
Left home at 17 and moved from NY to AZ, sight unseen. Didn't know a soul, but loved every minute of it.
Spent a summer in NY with family and met my ex-husband. He'd just gotten a job in Southern CA, so I moved there with him, sight unseen.. Didn't know a soul but him, and loved every minute of it.
A job transfer took us back to AZ, but I hated it there. Decided to move to Northern CA, after he'd found a job, and a 1-week scouting trip.. Didn't know a soul, but loved every minute of it.
New husband, job layoff, crappy CA economy convinced us to move to TX, sight unseen. Didn't know a soul, and love living here.
I say I have gypsy blood. It helps that I make friends easily, am pretty flexible about most things, and love new adventures.
I've done it more times that I can count and have always landed on my feet eventually! Sometimes you have to take some risks to really live life (and be happy).
I did it several times, when I was in my teens/20s, some moves worked out better than others but it all led me to where I am now (Phoenix metro area, AZ) which is where I met my wife and have been ever since. I do like it here, but I've liked everywhere I've lived so I suppose I'm pretty adaptable/easygoing/can find the beauty in all parts of our nation.
I don't know if we will ever move from here, my wife has lived here here entire life and basically everyone she is related to live here as well. My family is a bit of a diaspora so there's no real "home base" for everyone on my side anymore. If I had to guess I'd imagine we'll live here forever where we can see her side of the family, and continue to use our vacation time to visit my side of the family in their various locations. Maybe once we're retired we might spend more time traveling or living part of the year in different places, but we're not great travelers so I imagine we'll still spend most of our time here.
I did this once, when I moved by myself from Philadelphia to Albuquerque in 2008, without a job lined up, and without knowing anyone in Albuquerque (except one acquaintance who was willing to help, but didn't have any leads for me). People said it was courageous of me to move without a job ready for me, but it was really born out of desperation (related to health issues). I don't know that I'd really call it a leap of faith either. More like a throw of the dice.
I think 14 times starting in 1975. Getting ready for the 15th! I'll stop when I land in my "final resting place". Maybe though, once my spirit is set free, the number will soar!
